Re: Red

Classic. (And a great ending, too.)

Re: Red

Awesome story.
Though I would note that Hillary is most likely holding the cup in her left hand -- as most elementary cocktail party networking how-to books instruct -- so she can easily shake with her right hand, without the hand being cold and clammy from holding the drink.

Re: Red

Great story, Ben. How did you come up with this one?

The cup also has slipped into a great narrative song that I could not resist posting here.

Drive-by Truckers:

Saw you standing in the hallway, red plastic cup, and one of those big long cigarettes
You asked me if I could play you some Dylan
I said “Dylan who?” you told me to kiss your ass
I apologized, but you could tell I didn’t mean it by the way I rolled my eyes
and when you said it wasn’t me it was you
somehow I knew you were gonna tell me why

Stuff was flying out of the window
falling and breaking on the pavement underneath
He’s screaming at you, red faced and fuming
He’d come home early, parked his car way up the street
You had your stockings in your hand, panties in your purse
it was ten a.m. and all the neighbors heard
him calling you a whore and a tramp
you just stood there while your heels sank into the warm wet ground

He got a lawyer, you got a bottle
He got the children and you moved in with your mama
She fixes breakfast and lets you use her car
she don’t care how late you call to tell her where you are
Ya’ll still fight and she still nags you some
but somehow it’s different now than when you were young
It’s your own damn fault you been through hell
for one reason or another, somehow she kinda blames herself

Re: Red

The backstory: Me and T Lake were walking back to the Tampa bureau after a Gasparilla party, and I was like, Dang, there's a lot of red cups out here. And he was like, Yeah. Sure are. And I wondered if anyone had ever written about red cups.

Re: Red

Just saw this... and loved it.

Reminded me of the Taquitos story. Nobody I know can personify Taquitos and Red Cups quite like you Ben.

I actually had to rush to my kitchen and see what kind of plastic cups I had been using... RED!

But I must say, I usually like my beer out of the bottle or poured in a glass.

The Red Cups are also great for drinking organic chocolate milk. But that's not nearly as cool.

I will ask this question. What does it say about a person when you're over at his or her house (though in my experience, it's usually his) and while looking for a glass or cup in his cabinet you find an assortment of disposable cups (red plastic included), that have clearly been used, washed and ready for use again?

And it's not because he or she is "going green?"
