Rufus Wainwright: "Oh What a World"

Re: Newspaper Songs

Van Morrison
``Coney Island"
- Avalon Sunset

Coming down from Downpatrick
Stopping off at St. John's Point
Out all day birdwatching
And the craic was good
Stopped off at Strangford Lough
Early in the morning
Drove through Shrigley taking pictures
And on to Killyleagh
Stopped off for Sunday papers at the
Lecale District, just before Coney Island

Re: Newspaper Songs

Can't resist the urge, but I'm having a tough time recalling a lot of song lyrics about "posting for online."

Re: Newspaper Songs

Not sure if this is the same as the Pete Seeger Newspaper Men... but there's a really old song that's used as a theme to a local radio show called NEWSPAPERMEN by Vern Partlow.

Re: Newspaper Songs

"The Newsboy Jimmy Brown" -- Bill Monroe, etc.

"Streets of London" -- Sinead O'Connor (and whoever did it before her...)

"Dear Abby" -- John Prine (does that count?)

"Clara Sullivan's Letter" -- Hazel Dickens

"In the News" -- Kris Kristofferson

"Last Letter Home" -- Dropkick Murphys

"This Old House is Burning Down Tonight" -- The Clarks

Also, half the "Newsies" soundtrack. But you didn't hear it from me...

Re: Newspaper Songs

Two from Texas:
Star Telegram: The Reivers (great gangrey band name - taken from Faulkner with the literary power to back it up - still one of my favorite bands and well worth checking out)
Corsicana Daily Sun: Billy Joe Shaver - outlaw country from a guy who lost a finger working in the sawmill and went on to write for Willie and the boys. Other songs of his that could relate to the newspaper industry:
Good News Blues
Day By Day
Deja Blues
Old Five and Dimers Like Me
Bottom Dollar
Fit to Kill and Going Out in Style
Amtrak (Ain't Coming Back)
Try and Try Again
If I Give My Soul
It Was Fun While It Lasted

Two not from Texas
News of the World: The Jam
Read About It: Midnight Oil

Re: Newspaper Songs

Civil rights leaders are a pain in the neck
Can't hold a candle to Chang Kai Shek
How do I know? I read it in the Daily News
Ban the bombers are afraid of a fight
Peace hurts business and that ain't right
How do I know? I read it in the Daily News
Daily News, daily blues
Pick up a copy any time you choose
Seven little pennies in the newsboy's hand
And you ride right along to never, never land..
