For Worse
coming to a close
Hank Stuever: The end of the world is here: Lizardbreath has married Blandthony. Grandpa Jim is on his deathbed, with pitiable second wife Iris at his side. Our protagonist, Elly Patterson, is a Kleenex-clutching mess, as ever. She can't believe how the years have gone by a wrinkle at a time, blah blah blah, and worse, she can't shut up about it.
Somebody says something disgustingly pithy every panel now. You can feel the comic-strip family saga known as "For Better or for Worse" (known to some as "FBOFW," and to others simply as "Foob") coming to a close, in a cataract haze of soft focus.

Re: For Worse
As someone who reads the comics everyday, and still can't tell you why, I love this story. Only one wish: When you ask "Lynn Johnston may think she has fans, but does she know she has such devoted anti-fans?" I really wanted to know the answer.
At my first job, we used to pick a sentence from elsewhere in the paper to replace Family Circle's text. Turns out the comic can be funny if rewritten.
Naturally, I love the following exchange in the late 90's movie Go:
Claire: What do you have against the Family Circus?
Todd: Okay, you sit down to read your paper, and you're enjoying your entire two-page comic spread, right? And then there's the Family fu**ing Circus, bottom right hand corner, just waiting to suck. And it's the last thing you read, so it spoils everything you read before it.
Claire: You could just not read it.
Todd: I hate it, yet I'm uncontrollably drawn to it.
