Regular Joe
'sorta like a farewell'
Libby Copeland: WILMINGTON, Del., Aug. 26 --
The strangest thing happened Monday morning at the train station here.
"Joe came in here with a motorcade," says Daniel Thorpe, 44, a cab driver at the Amtrak station. A motorcade? For ol' Joe? Everybody here is used to seeing Joe Biden by himself, on his way to and from the train -- used to being able to go up and shake Joe's hand, talk about the grandkids.
Anyway, on Monday there he was. Big photo-op and a huge crush of press and Secret Service all around. Joe won't be taking the 7:35 a.m. Acela to Washington for a good long while, so he wanted to drop in and say goodbye.

Re: Regular Joe
I really enjoyed this story. A persons day-to-day life so often becomes hyperbole in this silly election coverage, so it's nice to see someone seek out the people who can bring it to life.

Re: Regular Joe
Did anyone else watch Biden's speech and introduction at the DNC? It seemed like this exact article was parroted word-for-word. I was telling my wife about the story and about to get to the part as to why he rode the train every day, and then a voice-over comes on the television, "Biden rode the train every day..."

And at one point, he said something like ... I disagree with where McCain wants to take this country, from Afghanistan to Iraq, from Amtrak to veterans.
And I was like, Amtrak? Did I hear him right?
Must love him some trains.

Re: Regular Joe
You heard that too, Ben? He had a nice catch when he almost called McCain, "George McCain." At least he recovered from that one. But he seemed genuinely nervous. I think I like that. At least he's a human and not a robot.
